We’re moving!

There are big changes coming to the Sexual Health Centre… all good ones, of course!

We’re excited to announce we are moving into the former Empire House at 48 Empire Street December 1. Although we have enjoyed our time here at Hillcrest Corner, we’re ready for our rebirth.

Empire House has a new name, Freeman House, and is the midst of a huge transformation. Renovations to the former teen shelter have been happening ever since summer. There’s new paint, new doors, and it will soon have a new main staircase (I say new, but it’s actually an uncovering of the original staircase from the Victorian period.)

The house has a lot of character including hardwood floors, metal radiators, and built-in cupboards. It’s beautiful.

Freeman House is only a few blocks from our current location on Hillcrest Street. It is just one block from the Bridgewater family of schools, and close to the Family Support Centre and Verge House.

Currently, Freeman House contains the Family Service of Western Nova Scotia. Eventually, the site is going to house a number of programs and services, which should make it convenient for everyone. Plus, I’m looking forward to working with other people again.

If you’re familiar with the building, we’re going to be in the back corner and have our own entrance. However, you will be able to access us through the rest of the building.

Despite the fact we will be upstairs again, we will be able to meet with clients downstairs if accessibility is an issue.

I’ve included some “Before” pictures so you can see our space before we tackle it with paint and imagination:

I’ve been scouting out paint chips, although this is one of my favourites:

We’re excited about this change, the first since we left Second Story Women’s Centre and moved into Hillcrest Corner way back in 2006. Keep watching this site for more news on the big move!
