What does a cervix do?

The cervix is located at the end of the vaginal canal. If you put your fingers inside your vagina, you may be able to feel it. It is a “nub” that is a bit tougher than the rest of the tissue in the vagina. It may feel a bit like the tip of your nose.

The os, a tiny hole in the cervix, is the passage to the uterus. Menstrual blood and discharge travels through the hole, as well as a baby if a woman is giving vaginal birth.

This hole is tiny though, so nothing will accidentally slip into it. The cervix is the end of the vagina and prevents things like tampons or sex toys from getting lost.

Sometimes you can feel a cervix with a penis or finger; other times you can’t because the cervix’s position may shift depending on the stage of a person’s menstrual cycle or sexual arousal. Sometimes having the cervix touched can be pleasurable. Other times it might cause discomfort.

Vaginal secretions are important and have many functions. You may notice these secretions after puberty on your underwear or on your fingers if you insert a finger into your vagina. These secretions range from creamy white to clear and liquidy, depending on your menstrual cycle. They flush out the vagina and keep it clean while the lubrication makes penetrative sex more comfortable.

What’s a foreskin?

A foreskin is the flap of skin that covers the head of the penis. Sometimes this skin is removed during a process called circumcision, which is done shortly after birth depending on the wishes of the parents.

Penises with foreskins look different than circumsized penises. When an uncircumcised penis is flaccid (or limp) you generally cannot see the head of the penis. When the penis is erect, the foreskin slides back and the head is exposed or semi-exposed. It’s totally normal to be circumsized, and it’s totally normal to have a foreskin.

What’s a chode/choad?

A chode is slang for a penis, specifically a thick penis. It may also be slang for the area between the testicles and anus.
